I kinda like surprises, normally, but sometimes I get one I don't. When folks who can pray up a storm turn around and act selfishly and outside what's best for the rest, my first thought is, "Hypocrite!!!! You call yourself a Christian but, c'mon, that's definitely un-Christian." It always helps to step back from the situation and pray. Just because I think that it's wrong is certainly no definite sign it is.
This doesn't mean that calling a spade a spade is wrong. It means that the truth reveals itself in time. How could I possibly know their motivation? Does this behavior spring from some awful thing in their childhood? Is it driven by a subconscious motivation that perhaps they don't even realize? It also doesn't preclude the possibility that it's just plain selfish behavior, too.
In the end, it means: Don't rush to judgment. There's no doubt that I've disappointed folks many times and I should use the same rules I want used for me. I'm not one of these patient souls who almost always acts rationally and thinks everything through. The problem isn't with the judging or the rushing, it's maintaining my composure outside when inside my head there's a guy who wants to fire down sooooo badly.
It's pretty normal for me to find out a little while later that I invested too much emotional currency and that it wasn't that big a deal, and being human makes that pretty normal. The goal is to learn ways to avoid putting that much energy and emotion when there's so little payoff. Sometimes, though, the only solution IS to fire down!! It's just knowing when and not regretting it later, and there's the whole point: How do you know when? That question brings us back to the beginning. 'Round and 'round we go.
