Stop Wild Horse Slaughter

Wild horses are being killed by our very own Bureau of Land Management. It is being done in the name of conservation, overpopulation, etc., but much of the drive comes from private interests who want to eliminate the horses so that they can graze livestock on public lands - our public lands. Yes, people have a right to make a living, but what they're doing to the wild horses borders on, and perhaps flops over the line of being criminal. If any of us were to treat these horses as the BLM has, we'd be hauled into court.

Check this out: "The Bureau of Land Management has pulled the plug on the massive roundup of wild horses in the Calico Complex. This remote and starkly beautiful area in northwestern Nevada was home to one of the largest wild, free-roaming herds of wild horses in the United States. 39 horses are reported dead as a result of the winter roundup. This does not include the 25-30 mares that have aborted their late term foals in the feedlot style facility outside Fallon, Nevada. The death toll is expected to rise as BLM begins preparing and processing the horses next week (freeze-branding, gelding of stallions, etc.). However, the public may not know what happens from here on out, as BLM has decided not to provide veterinary reports on the cause of death in the new Fallon facility." Doesn't that sound something like a wild horse Gitmo?

To get more information and to contact folks in Washington, go to http://www.thecloudfoundation.org/. I don't jump on many bandwagons, but this is just wrong. There seems to be a lack of humanity around this and it has been going on far, far too long. We can do better in controlling their population and these majestic creatures certainly deserve kinder treatment. It's time to put things into perspective and ensure that private interests don't overrun those of the publics (meaning us), and that creatures whose presence in this country predates our own are given protection and proper consideration.

The wild horses are not over-populated , and there are 200 cattle to every 1 horse . Also the welfare ranchers are subsidized with a half billion of our tax dollars. A study by the Governement Accouting Office proved cattle have over-grazed our public lands and destroyed riparian areas --not our wild horses--as the BLM has falsely claimed.
