I asked a very perceptive twenty-six-year-old high school history teacher what the hardest part of his job was, to which he replied, "It's very hard to get someone who has no history to appreciate that of others, much less that of a country or the world. Perhaps part of that is because, when you're a teenager, you're always looking forward to what you can do when you get older, meaning party, drive, date and so on. When your whole focus is looking forward, it doesn't occur to you to see all the things behind you." Rather sage words from such a young man.
